You start off in your house. Leave your house and try to exit the city at the top grassy area. Prof. Oak will take you to get a poke'mon. Squirtle is definately the best of the 3 starting poke'mon. If you have some experience, I suggest him. However, if you are a begginer I suggest that you get Bulbasaur. He is effective against the first 3 gym leaders.Do not get Charmander or you will have to grow him major experience points to beat the first 2 gym leaders. After you fight your rival, leave the city. Fight all the wild poke'mon you can without the chance of fainting your poke'mon. Run if this is about to happen. After you get to Viridian City go to the Poke-Center(it just says poke). You can heal your poke'mon here and there is one of these in every city ahead. Then go to the Poke-mart(it just says mart) the guy will hand you a package to deliver to Prof. Oak. You can't do anythng until you deliver this. Take it to Oak. He will then give you a poke'dex. Your rival says his sister won't give you a map, go talk to her and she will. Go back to Viridian and buy pokeballs at the mart. Go to wher e all the Pidgey and Rattas are and catch some. I suggest buying 10 pokeballs. You can also head left out of Viridian to a small patch of grass. Here you can find Nidoran M., Nidoran F., Rattata, and Spearow. Don't venture past the grass unless you want to fight your rival. You may now leave Viridian City and head to Viridian Forest. Here you will encounter Weedle, Caterpie, Kakuna, Metapod, and Pikachu(if you are lucky it is seen 5% of the time). You should cach the Weedle, Caterpie, and Pikachu, but no the other 2 because they can't do anything. Here you run into 3 trainers all with low level bugs, a Pidgey or a Spearow will take them out easy. There are 3 items in Viridian, a potion, a antidote, and a poke'ball. After you leave Viridian Forest, you should be ready to fight your first gym leader, Brock.

Pewter City-In Pewter there is a Museum and a gym. The museum is useless until later. If you have a Squirtle with Bubble and/or water gun or a Bulbasaur with Vine Whip you will have no problem bating Brocks gym. His poke'mon are rock and these are extremely effective.Remember to heal your poke'mon any chance you get. After you beat the gym you get a badge. These badges allow you to get into the Elite Four later on. They also allow you to teach your poke'mon a special HM skill, they can not learn it however until you get that HM.You also get the TM Bide, it useless so don't teach to any poke'mon. You can now leave Pewter City. On the next road there are 8 trainers, so you may have to go back to Pewter to heal you poke'mon several times. After you beat those trainers there is some grass. These are the only places you can catch Jigglypuff. He only pops up 4% of the time so you better be ready to wait. Heal your poke'mon before you head into Mt. Moon. Mt. Moon is a tough place if you don't have Squirtle or Bulbasaur. In Mt. Moon you can catch a Zubat, Geodude, Paras, and a Clefairy. There is also 8 items and 12 trainers. The last trainer you beat lets you have a fossil which is later turned into a poke'mon. Get the Dome Fossil, it turns into the superior Kabuto and then Kabutops. After Mt. Moon ther e is a road with a small patch of grass. Here you can catch Ekans in red and Sandshrew in blue. You are now headed to thecity with the second gym.

Cerulean City-In Cerulean there is a gym, a Bike Shop, and a place where you can trade a Poliwhirl for a Jynx. If you got Bulbasaur, it is probably alright for you to go ahead and fight Misty the gym trainer. Otherwise you need to go up the nugget bridge(at the top of the city, there are 6 trainers). Right before you get to the bridge you fight your Rival. If you easily beat him you are making good progress. If not go train your poke'mon. After you beat the bridge you need to go to the grass patch to your left. Catch a Oddish in red and a Bellsprout in blue. You should also catch an Abra(it doesn't know any attacks). You may now go fight Misty. These grass poke'mon are effective against her water. After you beat Misty head up the bridge again. Up here there are 2 items and 9 trainers. After you beat the nine trainers go into the house. Help bill change back into a human. He will then give you a ticket to the S.S. Anne. Before you chamged Bill back, there was a house with a police infront. They are now moved. You can cut through this person's house to proceed on. On the next road you can jump the fences to see grass and enter a building. You can catch a Mankey in the grass, and the house is a poke'mon daycare. The man there raises your poke'mon for you. You pay $100 for each level raised. The only poke'mon I suggest doing this with is Magikarp. At the bottom there are 2 buildings. You can't pass through the large one. You have to take the underground path. On the other side there are 6 powerful trainers but you can avoid all but 2. Leave to enter the next city.

Vermillion City-In Vermllion there is a a chance to trade a Spearow for a Farfetch'd. Go into the house next to the Mart. You also get your first fishing rod here. Get it from the Fishing Guru in the house behind the Gym. You can use it to catch one type of poke'mon, Magikarp. In this town you also fight the 3rd Gym trainer. It is Lt. Surge, he has electric poke'mon. If you have any type of rock or grass you should have no problem. Water and birds won't do good against them. However, before you can beat Surge you need to go to the S.S. Anne. The path at the bottom of the town leads there. There is a total of 14 trainers. You also have to fight your rival. After you beat him, you go visit the captain. Comfort him and he will give you HM 1. Use it to cut the bush next to Lt. Surge gym and any other bush that looks like it. You can leave the S.S. Anne, without it leaving, until you get HM 1. After you beat Surge, go to the road to the left of the town. You can not leave the city that way, but there is 10 trainers. You can also catch a Drowzee. A Drowzee can learn dream eater. He is one of the best Poke'mon you can get up until this point. After you beat those trainers, or before, you can go to Diglett's cave. Go through the cave. You will see two houses. In the first one you will see a guy that will trade you a Mr. Mime for a Abra. The second house will have Oak's aide. He will give you HM 5 if you have 10 or more types of poke'mon. Head back through the cave. Then head back to Cerulean. Cut the bush to the left of the city. This path will take you towards Rock Tunnel. The path has 10 trainers, you have to use flash to see. Inside Rock Tunnel there is 15 trainers, and also 2 new poke'mon. One poke'mon you can catch is Machop. Machop is a very good poke'mon to get at this point in the game. The second poke'mon is Onix, Onix is a very hard poke'mon to catch, but is worth it. This is the path you need to take to get through Rock Tunnel. Go all the to the right and up, when you first enter. Go down and to the right on the second floor. Next go up and to the left. Finally, go down, left, down, left, and right.

Lavender Town-The main place in Lavender Town is the tower. This is where you can catch ghost types poke'mon. You can't do that yet, because you don't have a Silph Scope. The first small building is where Mr. Fuji lives. You need him to get the poke'flute. In another house, you can get the names of your poke'mon changed. Right now you can't do anything in Lavender, so we'll come back. Leave the city using the road on the left. There is 9 trainers on this road. You can also catch new poke'mon. In red you can catch Growlithe. In blue you can catch Vulpix. You can't pass through the main building, so you have to go through the underground tunnel(the little house).

Celadon City-Celadon City is a large area, so I'm going to break it down. When you first enter the city, the fifth house on the right is the Celadon Mansion. If you go around and enter it from the back, you can get an Eevee. Eevee is not a great poke'mon, but you can evolve it using a stone. Wait until it gains experience though. The 7th building on the right is the Celedon Dept. Store. You can get almost anything here, including stones. You also go to the top floor to get a drink for the gaurds. Give it to one of the people in the buildings that you can't pass through. You can now pass through them all. On the second row of buildings there is two buildings you can go in. Go into the left one. This is The Team Rocket Hideout.=0

Team Rocket Lair-First you go to the back of the building. There is a Rocket member, fight him and then press the switch behind the poster. When you go down the stairs ther will be two trainers. They both have two poke'mon. There is also an escape rope. Head down the second set of stairs. There is one trainer and 4 items on this floor. Find your way through the maze and there will be a staircase in the bottom right corner. Go up it. There are 2 trainers and a hyper potion. Go back down. Go back through the maze. head down the staircase by the trainer on this floor.
